Terms And Conditions

  1. By clicking any of the above options to Buy Miles, Gift Miles, Transfer Miles , Extend Miles or Reinstate Miles or Multiply Miles, you will leave www.ethiopianairlines.com and its sub domains  and you will be transferred from the Ethiopian website to the Points Platform which is a third party website powered by Points.com Inc. The ShebaMiles Member acknowledges and hereby agrees that Ethiopian Airlines will collect, use and transfer to Points.com Inc certain relevant member information, including relevant information on a ShebaMiles Member who will be a recipient of ShebaMiles Miles when applicable, held by Ethiopian including personal information which an Ethiopian Airlines ShebaMiles Member provides to Ethiopian, such as; identity data like name, email ID, ShebaMiles account data like membership account number, ShebaMiles Miles balance, transactional data like past purchase transactions, flight information and behavioural data like campaign response, online activity. Such disclosure shall be made in accordance with our Privacy Policy and for the purposes of enabling the ShebaMiles Member to conduct the transaction and enable special offers from time to time from ShebaMiles and our partners.
  2. All Buy Miles, Gift Miles, Extend Miles, Reinstate Miles, Multiply Miles transactions are processed and payments for the same are collected and processed by Points.com Inc.
  3. The contract for the use of the Points Platform, including the processing of any fees and payments by Points.com Inc. via the Points Platform is between the ShebaMiles Member and Points.com Inc. Accordingly Points.com Inc.’s terms and conditions shall apply to the use of the Points Platform. Points.com Inc.’s use and disclosure of personal information may be different from Ethiopian Airlines. Points.com Inc. may not be bounded by the privacy laws that provide the same level of protection as those binding Ethiopian.
  4. Ethiopian strongly recommends that the ShebaMiles Member reads the terms and conditions. By utilising the Points Platform, the ShebaMiles Member is agreeing to abide by the terms and conditions imposed by Points.com Inc. with respect to use of the Point Platform, including any fee, payment of all amounts when due and compliance with all rules and restrictions applicable to the use of the Platform.
  5. ShebaMiles Miles can be bought, gifted, transferred, extended, reinstated or multiplied by ShebaMiles Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum member (“Eligible ShebaMiles Member”) via the Points.com Inc. platform (“Points Platform”).  

5.1. ShebaMiles Miles can be bought by an Eligible ShebaMiles Member via the Points Platform for their personal use (“Buy Miles”) or as a gift to another Eligible ShebaMiles Member (“Gift Miles”) in blocks of 1,000 Miles and at the cost of USD 25 per 1,000 Miles with 1,000 Miles as the initial minimum purchase. From time to time, eligible ShebaMiles Members will be given the option to top-up their ShebaMiles Miles balance when falling short of the Miles required for booking a flight award on www.ethiopianairlines.com  (“Top up” and together with “Buy Miles”). Such members can Top up in blocks of 1,000 Miles and at the cost of USD 25 per 1,000 Miles with 1,000 Miles as the initial minimum purchase.

5.2. ShebaMiles Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum Members can purchase up to 50,000 Miles within 12 consecutive months.

5.3. ShebaMiles Miles can be transferred by an Eligible ShebaMiles Member to another eligible member (“Transfer Miles”) via the Points Platform, in blocks of 1,000 miles and at the cost of USD 18 per 1,000 Miles. 1,000 Miles is the initial minimum purchase and the maximum transfer that can be sent and received by a member is 15,000 miles within 12 consecutive months. Status Miles cannot be transferred.

5.4. ShebaMiles Status Miles can be purchased by an Eligible ShebaMiles Member via the Points Platform for personal use to qualify for the next higher tier level or maintain existing tier level in the ShebaMiles program (“Elite Miles”) . Eligible members can buy Status Miles in blocks of 1,000 Status Miles at the cost of USD 125 per 1,000 Miles with 1,000 Miles as the initial minimum purchase.

5.5. ShebaMiles Blue, Silver, Gold and Platinum Members can purchase up to 10,000 Status Miles within 12 consecutive months.

5.6. Eligible ShebaMiles members will be given the option from time to time, to multiply certain Award Miles earned in the previous calendar month from qualifying activities with different multiplier factors-2X, 4X, 6X or 12X  at a cost of USD 18 per 1,000 Miles to be processed via the Points Platform (“Multiply Miles”).

5.7. An eligible ShebaMiles member can multiply miles up to a maximum limit of 50,000 Miles within 12 months.

5.8. Miles purchased under the Multiply Miles product is non-refundable.

  1. The price of ShebaMiles Miles and the rules associated with buying, gifting, transferring, extending, reinstating and multiplying ShebaMiles Miles and/or conditions of obtaining ShebaMiles Miles at any time are subject to change without notice.
  2. ShebaMiles Miles bought/ gifted/ transferred/multiplied/ are valid for a minimum of 3 years from the date of the purchase transaction and will expire at the end of the receiving member’s month of birth on the third year. ShebaMiles Miles extended are valid for 12 months from the original expiry date and will expire at the end of such period. ShebaMiles Miles reinstated are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase and will expire at the end of such period.
  3. ShebaMiles Miles can be bought, gifted, extended and reinstated through www.ethiopianairlines.com and through Ethiopian Customer Service offices. ShebaMiles Miles can be transferred/and multiplied online only through www.ethiopianairlines.com and not through Ethiopian Customer Service offices.
  4. Members will only be able to use a credit card acceptable by Ethiopian Airlines to complete payments to Buy Miles, Gift Miles, Transfer Miles, Extend Miles, Reinstate Miles and Multiply Miles when such transactions occur online. Cash payments are not allowed for online transaction.
  5. ShebaMiles Members are required to log in to their Ethiopian ShebaMiles Account on www.ethiopianairlines.com before being transferred to the Points Platform to complete the transaction.
  6. Transactions will by default be processed in U.S Dollars. Eligible member can change the currency in EUR or GBP. Where payments are made in any currency other than U.S Dollars, the exchange rate applied may vary from the live exchange rate. Any taxes including international and Local taxes may be levied and payable by the Shebamile member as per the policies of Ethiopian and/or the applicable law.
  7. ShebaMiles Miles will be credited to the ShebaMiles account in real time after full and successful payment is settled by credit card via the Points Platform. In the event of ShebaMiles Miles not being posted to the member account, ShebaMiles Miles can be claimed by contacting an Ethiopian Contact Centre.
  8. ShebaMiles Miles can be bought, gifted, transferred, extended, reinstated and multiplied within the prescribed limits and must be purchased prior to making a booking/redemption. Any transaction made to Buy Miles (whether through Buy Miles or through top up), Gift Miles, Transfer Miles, Extend Miles, Reinstate Miles and Multiply Miles with the intent of redeeming such ShebaMiles Miles for awards doesn’t guarantee the availability of such awards. Refunds in respect of ShebaMiles Miles purchased under the Buy Miles or Top up, Gift Miles, Transfer Miles, Reinstate Miles or Multiply Miles product are not permitted. The cash price at which ShebaMiles Miles are purchased has no correlation with the value a ShebaMiles Member may realise when redeeming those ShebaMiles Miles purchased for an award when compared to the price at which that same good or service may be available for purchase by cash                      .
  9. A Member cannot sell his or her ShebaMiles Miles for cash or other consideration and a Member may not purchase ShebaMiles Miles from a third party.
  10. If the recipient of any ShebaMiles Miles is not a ShebaMiles Member, the recipient must enrol in Ethiopian ShebaMiles prior to being able to receive any such ShebaMiles Miles.
  11. ShebaMiles Award Miles that are bought, gifted, transferred, extended, reinstated or multiplied do not count toward tier qualification.
  12. ShebaMiles Status Miles that are bought count towards tier qualification; but do not count towards redeemable Award Miles balance.
  1. Application for membership into the ShebaMiles Program is open to any individual who is at least two years of age. However, online enrolment through the Ethiopian website is possible for individuals who are 18 years of age and above.  Corporations, Organizations, Partnerships and/or other entities cannot be enrolled as a member. 
  2. An application form will only be accepted if it is fully completed. Ethiopian may accept or reject any application for membership in its absolute discretion. If an application for membership is rejected, then any benefit that may have accrued to the applicant through the use of a Temporary Membership card will be null and void. 
  3. Further to item 2, for individual persons aged below 18 years.
    • The home address to be filled in the Membership application form must be that of the parents or guardians of the applicant.
    •  The applicant together with a parent or guardian of the applicant must approve and sign on the Membership Application. Parents or guardians should write their full names besides their signature.
    • Online access is permitted only for members above 18 years old.
  4. Subject to local laws and restrictions, membership is open to all individuals all over the world. An individual may use the ShebaMiles Temporary Membership Card detached from the ShebaMiles application form or printed upon online enrollment until his or her membership account is activated, qualifies for the Blue Membership Tier and receives the permanent card. This Temporary Membership Card enables an individual to register in order to accrue ShebaMiles Miles.  
  5. Ethiopian will issue a Member with a permanent membership number against which his or her Miles will be accrued. The Membership Card may state an expiry date and, if so, is only valid for use up to that expiry date. Each Temporary Membership Card and each Membership Card is strictly personal. In case of misuse of the Temporary Membership Card or Membership Card or use not in accordance with these terms and conditions, the Temporary Membership Card and/or Membership Card may be destroyed and all accrued Miles may be cancelled. A Membership Card is not a credit card and is used for the purpose of identification only. A Membership card is not transferable and at all times remains the property of the issuer. 
  6. A Member must return his or her Membership Card without delay to a ShebaMiles service centre whenever requested by Ethiopian or any other party acting on its behalf. A Member must immediately report a lost Membership Card to a ShebaMiles service-centre. 
  7. Membership is automatically terminated on the death or bankruptcy of a Member. Miles accumulated prior to termination in these circumstances will be immediately cancelled. However, Ethiopian may, at its own discretion, reinstate Miles in favor of the heirs of the deceased member upon the application of his or her personal representative. 
  8. Membership is not transferable. A Member is not permitted to hold more than one personal Account. An individual may use one Membership Card only. An individual member can have more than one membership card upon qualification to higher Tier levels after Blue Tier. Blue membership cards do not have expiry dates and shall be retained by members during their membership in the Program. 
  9. All Miles and Awards earned under ShebaMiles are accrued by or issued to the Member in his or her personal Member Account. Duplicate membership account creation is not allowed in the Program. In the event that duplicate accounts of the same individual are discovered, miles accrued on the older created membership profile will be retained and those unique miles on the duplicate account will be merged to the older account. All other duplicate miles will be cancelled.
  10. Name changes by a Member must be notified to Ethiopian in writing and accompanied by all such legal or other documentation as Ethiopian shall from time to time request to evidence that change. Ethiopian may require additional information and authentication for Account validation purposes in respect of any change to a member’s personal details. 
  11. All tax, duties and other liabilities arising from the accumulation of Miles or the receipt and use of Awards are and remain the sole responsibility of Members and must be paid prior to the issuance of an Award. Ethiopian gives no warranty or assurance in relation to such tax, duties or other liabilities. 
  12. Ethiopian may in its absolute discretion suspend, cancel or terminate a Membership or a Member's accumulated Miles at any time. Termination of membership may also occur if Ethiopian terminates the ShebaMiles Program in its entirety. In the event of membership termination, all miles accrued may be cancelled.
  13. A Member may at any time cancel his or her membership by advising a ShebaMiles service centre in writing or returning his or her membership card to a ShebaMiles service centre. 
  14. All Miles credited but not exchanged for Awards, as well as any unutilized Award, are cancelled upon a person ceasing to be a Member.
  15. A Member can be terminated from Membership if he/she fails to comply with the Terms and Conditions, misrepresents information (including flight information) or abuses awards and/or benefits offered. 

Membership Tiers and Benefits

  1. A Member may be granted a Platinum, Gold or Silver Membership depending on the number of qualifying flights flown and/or Status Miles accrued in each calendar year.
  2. The number of Status Miles or qualifying flights required for each Membership tier and the benefits and privileges provided to a member at each membership tier may be changed at any time without notice. 
  3. Ethiopian may establish, upgrade or downgrade a Member's Membership tier at its sole discretion. Only Status Miles accumulated in each calendar year or the number of qualifying flight sector is considered in granting a particular Membership tier and is not carried forward to any other calendar year.
  4. Ethiopian may downgrade or revoke a premium tier level of a member at its sole discretion if he/she displays unruly conduct at customer service offices, at airports or in flight cabins (including ,verbal threats, physical confrontation, intoxication, riotous behavior, voluntary attempts to transfer exclusive premium tier benefits to multiple passengers with boarding passes against policy, etc.). 

Lounge access

  1. ShebaMiles premium members can access executive lounges from all Ethiopian Airlines departure airports:

        5.1. Platinum and Gold Tier members: May access First and Business Class lounges across Ethiopian network even when flying Ethiopian in economy class. A Platinum or Gold member can invite one guest into the lounges.

  1. The guest shall be travelling on Ethiopian flight on the same day from the same airport terminal that the member is flying from. The guest shall be accompanied by the inviting member when entering the lounge.
  2. When a Platinum or Gold member is flying on Ethiopian operated flight and is entering a Star Alliance branded lounge (click here to see list of locations), only one guest is allowed to accompany the member.
  3. For Platinum and Gold members the lounge access benefit is available only when travelling on an Ethiopian or Star Alliance member carrier flight.

(Note: As one of our precautionary measures in fighting the spread of Covid-19, the one guest access privilege into our lounges accompanying our Platinum and Gold members is temporarily suspended at lounges located at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.)

    5.2 Silver members:  May access ShebaMiles Silver Lounge at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. This lounge access benefit is available only when travelling on Ethiopian Airlines flights.

  1. Members are not allowed to bring their food inside the lounge unless a justifiable reason is presented and discussed with the lounge supervisor on duty.
  2. While members are entitled and invited to fully enjoy our offerings inside the lounges, it is not allowed to remove food, beverages, or periodicals from the lounges.
  3. Carrying abnormal type of bags except normal handbag as per allowed size and weight limits is prohibited.
  4. Members shall keep their belongings with themselves as Ethiopian will not take any responsibility for lost item of any kind in the lounges.
  5. Unpacking, repacking bags in the lounges is strictly forbidden.
  6. Baggage carts of any kind shall not be brought into the lounges.
  7. Animals that can be carried in the cabin can be brought into the lounges and they shall remain in their locked cages except well trained and properly documented service animals that are meant to assist passengers physically, psychologically or emotionally.

           12.1 The service ware of the lounges cannot be used for feeding animals.  

           12.2 Animals of any kind are not allowed to walk around the food and beverage areas and take seats in the lounges.  

           12.3 If the pets become unruly, the customer may be requested to take them out for the comfort of the rest of the customers.

  1. Smoking is prohibited in the lounges except in designated areas. This includes the use of electronic cigarettes.
  2. Playing any musical instrument or loud media is also not allowed.
  3. Using loud speakers while answering calls from personal devices is not allowed while in the lounges. We recommend the use of head phones and earbuds in the lounges for the comfort of other customers.
  4. Children must always be accompanied by an adult and must behave in a manner conducive to the quiet atmosphere of the lounge.
  5. Members shall drink alcoholic drinks responsibly.

          17.1 Ethiopian staff in the lounges reserve the right to refuse to serve alcoholic beverages to any customer who appears to be intoxicated or seems to behave unruly.

          17.2 Children under the age of 21 are not allowed to consume alcohol in any of our lounges.

  1. Lounge attire and conduct:

         18.1 Members’ attire and conduct must be consistent with the environment.

         18.2 Walking in the lounges with night clothing and bare foot is prohibited.

         18.3 It is not allowed to lie down on the floor, sofas or rest feet on the tables for the comfort of other customers, the cleanliness of the lounges and the furniture therein as well.                                                   

              18.4 Inappropriate behavior such as drunkenness, extreme rudeness towards the staff and other customers, aggressive behavior or performing acts that are generally considered harmful and/or unsuitable to the environment are strictly prohibited.

        18.5 Ethiopian Premium Lounge Management reserves the right to ask clients behaving inappropriately or who fail to comply with the above rules to leave the Lounge.

  1. COVID-19 prevention measures.

        19.1 Members are always expected to respect all COVID-19 prevention measures. Maintaining a safe physical distance, wearing face masks that covers the mouth and nose, washing hands with soap and water and use of hand sanitizers are basic.

       19.2 Shower facility:

  1. Service is on first-come, first-serve basis. A member shall register first for the use of the shower facilities.
  2. Members can use the shower by turn and only if he/she is holding the next number on the list. Using the shower facility may be disallowed if attempts are made to bypass the line.
  3. A member using this service shall keep his/her boarding pass with the reception for further control and monitoring of boarding time.
  4. Minimum time required to enter the shower room is at least 60 minutes before departure. It is not recommended that members use showers if they have less than 60 minutes before flight departure.
  5. The maximum allowable time to use in the shower is 15 minutes for the efficient use of the facility.
  6. Members shall keep the showers clean after usage.
  7. Littering water insoluble items in the showers is not allowed.
  8. Towels shall be hanged on the towel hangers and should not be thrown on the floors after usage.

Ethiopian shall take measures to the extent of permanently terminating membership for any violation of the lounge access policy.

  1. All Awards must be booked either online at www.ethiopianairlines.com or directly with Ethiopian ticket offices – either in person, through a legal delegate or by sending an electronic authorization form from the member’s online account. Miles may be redeemed for Awards only by that Member (or by a parent or guardian on behalf of a Member under 18 years of age). Member may order an Award for (1) Member’s own benefit or (2) -for a beneficiary (A beneficiary is any person nominated by the member to transfer his/her award to).
  2. All awards that are redeemed by a member or a beneficiary are not for sale or cannot be exchanged for any form of payment in whatever kind.   
  3. Awards are neither transferable, negotiable, nor refundable and neither Miles nor Awards have any cash value and neither is convertible to cash. Awards that, in the sole discretion of Ethiopian, have been bought, sold or bartered by or to a Member may be cancelled or confiscated without prior notice. If the Award has been utilized either partially or fully, the Member will be liable for payment of travel on a full fare basis. All rights, including the right to bring legal action or to cancel a membership, are also reserved. 
  4. Members may redeem Miles for Awards at any time while the Miles are valid, subject to availability and applicable conditions as set out in these Program Rules or in terms and conditions imposed by Service Partners.    
  5. To claim an Award, a Member must have accumulated the required amount of Miles in his or her applicable Account.  
  6. All Awards are subject to availability and suppliers' restrictions. Ethiopian or Service Partners may from time to time impose a period in which no Awards will be available. Awards may not be available on all flights at all times. Ethiopian may withdraw, replace or substitute awards at any time without notice.  
  7. Ethiopian may at any time without notice alter the number of Miles required to obtain a particular Award, withdraw an Award supplied or impose additional restrictions on an award or conditions of obtaining it.   
  8. To the extent permitted by law, Ethiopian accepts no liability whatsoever in respect of Awards supplied by service partners in connection with a Service Partner's refusal to supply an Award to the member. The rights, if any, which a Member may have in connection with an Award, are solely against the Service Partner supplying that Award. Subject to this clause, all Awards supplied to a Member will be subject exclusively to the terms and conditions of Service Partners supplying the Award.  
  9. To the extent permitted by law, Ethiopian accepts no liability in respect of death or injury, or consequential loss or damages arising from, or in connection with, the supply of an Award (other than the use of an Award ticket) or for the loss, theft or destruction of an Award. An Award ticket which has been lost, stolen or destroyed may be replaced or reissued if the Member promptly reports the incident to the nearest Ethiopian office and signs an appropriate indemnity form at an Ethiopian office and can establish that the Award ticket was not used prior to its loss, theft or destruction. In respect of an Award ticket, neither Ethiopian, an Affiliate or a Service Partner (as the case may be) accepts any liability other than as set out in the General Conditions of Carriage and travel documents of the relevant airline and the Warsaw Convention 1929 (as may be amended and applicable to the relevant airline). 
  10. As may not be excluded by law, no warranty (whether express or implied) whatsoever is given in respect of Awards provided under Ethiopian. In particular, no warranty is given with respect to the quality of Awards or their suitability for any purpose. 
  11. To the extent permitted by law and subject to these program rules, the liability of Ethiopian, an affiliate or a Service Partner in respect of flights, goods or services which are the subject of an Award is limited to any one or more of the following:
    11.1.Replacement of the goods or supply of equivalent goods,
    11.2.The repair of the goods,
    11.3.The repayment of the costs in replacing the goods or of acquiring equivalent goods and in the case of services or flights, having the service or flight supplied again, at the option of Ethiopian, the affiliate or the Service Partner nominated to supply the flight, goods, or services as the case may be.
  12. Award tickets are valid for twelve months from the date of issue, unless otherwise stated and cannot be extended. Expired Award Tickets, Upgrades will not be refunded, replaced or extended. Some special or promotional tickets may have a validity of   than twelve months.
  13. Miles may be re-credited to a Member if an Award ticket is completely unused and valid. Such re-crediting will be subject to payment of US $100.00 as   for awards on Ethiopian or Airline Partners’ international flights while it is USD $50.00 for unused and valid awards on Ethiopian domestic flights. Platinum Tier members are exempted from mile re-deposit service charges. Any Miles, which have expired or awards for which the 12 month validity period since the issuance date has lapsed, will not be re-credited. The charges for re-crediting or re-deposit of award ticket or upgrade miles are applicable per single redemption transactions. Once travel has commenced on an Award ticket, the award is considered to have been used.
  14. Award tickets are valid travel documents and are issued on the basis that all conditions specified upon issuance of the ticket apply. Without limiting this requirement, the Member must ensure that he or she has the correct visa, travel documents and inoculations (including those for infants).
  15.  Award Ticket and Upgrades can only be booked on scheduled Ethiopian flights. Award travel may not be possible on certain joint services or   services. It is the responsibility of the Member to verify the availability of Award travel in these instances with the airline with which the flight is booked. The use of an Award ticket may not entitle the Member to certain benefits which are associated with a full fare ticket. For instance, when   on an award ticket or upgrade, a beneficiary may not be entitled to certain ShebaMiles Program benefits that are exclusively granted to a member corresponding to his or her Tier level in the Program. If the Member has any queries in this respect, he or she should contact Ethiopian Offices.  
  16. An Award ticket cannot be endorsed   a carrier other than that named on the ticket. Once ticketed, only date changes are allowed after paying the applicable service charge.
  17. Date changes on an Award Ticket within the validity date of one year from the award issuance date are allowed against a Service Charge of US $20.00 and   $50.00 for Domestic and International flights respectively. Date changes on Class upgrade awards within the validity date of one year from the award issuance date are allowed against a Service Charge of US $5.00 for International flights   fare and ticketing rules with regards to date changes corresponding to the economy class revenue ticket shall apply.
    However:
    17.1.After the first issuance of the full Award Ticket or Class Upgrade Award per flight sector, Silver Tier Members are allowed one free rebooking before   of the trip.
    17.2.After the first issuance of the full Award   or Class Upgrade Award per flight sector Gold Tier Members are allowed two free re-bookings before   of the trip.
    17.3.After the first issuance of the full Award   or Class Upgrade Award per flight sector Platinum Tier Members are allowed unlimited free re-bookings before and after   of the trip.
  18. Since all travel awards are subject to seat availability, it’s highly recommended that award should be ordered (requested) at least three weeks before   of travel.
  19. The Award redemption level for infants (up to two years of age) not occupying seats is free of mile requirement when traveling with an adult who is traveling on an award ticket or  . Infant occupying seat redeems adult Award ticket or upgrade redemption level. An infant must be accompanied by an adult in order to qualify for the relevant redemption. Reasonable documentary evidence of the infant’s age may be requested.
  20. To the extent permitted by Law, in the event of a cancellation of a flight, a Member traveling on an Award ticket will be transferred to the next flight on the same or available carrier where there are seats available based on the booking class specified on the ticket. All award ticket holders shall be treated as all other revenue   passengers with equal status for protection and involuntary rerouting cases.
  21. When requesting an Award, a Member may be requested to complete an Award Authorization Form and supply a copy of his or her passport.
  22.  It is possible to request a Business Class upgrade award on revenue tickets (not Award tickets) provided that Member has a regular, paid and confirmed revenue ticket in Economy class that has been issued prior to the upgrade being requested.  Such requests are recommended to be made at least 72 hours in advance of travel and whenever space is available and the Member has sufficient Miles in his Account to be redeemed for this Award privilege. In the event that a Member upgrades a revenue ticket pursuant to this clause, the fare and ticketing rules applicable to the revenue ticket will still apply irrespective of the class of travel. Member can redeem Miles for only one award upgrade per flight.
  23. In respect of Award tickets,   is permitted for one way and round trip awards with extra miles. Onward connecting flights within 24 hours are not considered a stopover.
  24.  Award tickets or class upgrade awards cannot be re-routed once issued. If a member decides to reroute an issued award itinerary, the valid award miles shall be re-credited against the payment of applicable service charges and a new award ticket or class upgrade award shall be issued to the member.
  25. Class upgrade awards with mile redemptions are not allowed to be redeemed on an economy class award ticket.
  1. These Terms and Conditions form the basis of ShebaMiles Program. They are intended to protect both Member and Ethiopian. It is the member’s responsibility to read and understand them. 
  2. These Terms and Conditions are effective as at December 13, 2011 and may be amended from time to time. Members should refer to the ShebaMiles website for the current Terms and Conditions. 
  3. Every member is subject to these Terms and Conditions. 
  4. The Terms and Conditions applicable to the Award redemption will be those at the time the miles are redeemed for the Award. 
  5. The Program Rules may be changed, varied, suspended or terminated at any time without notice. Reasonable efforts will be used to promptly post details of that change or variation, suspension or termination (as the case may be) to the Web site for ShebaMiles at www.ethiopianairlines.com. In the event of any conflict between this version of the Program Rules and any version of the Program Rules published on the website for ShebaMiles, the latter shall prevail. 
  6. The member’s use of his or her membership card or quoting of his or her membership number after any change or variation to the program Rules will be deemed to be acceptable by the member to that change of variation. 
  7. Any notice to be given to a Member under these Program Rules will be deemed to have been given if posted by pre-paid post to the member at the address provided by the member for the purpose of ShebaMiles. 
  8. The Program Rules are governed by the laws of (Federal Democratic Republic of) Ethiopia and any proceeding with respect to or in connection with ShebaMiles must be brought in that jurisdiction. Membership, including eligibility for Membership and any Miles or Awards, is subject to any applicable laws and regulations, including all applicable resolutions of the International Air Transport Association. 
  9. ShebaMiles does not operate (or will cease to operate) in a jurisdiction in which it would be prohibited (or becomes prohibited) by any relevant law or governmental direction. 
  10. Reasonable care has been taken to ensure that information contained in the Program Rules and in any publications and advertisements in connection with ShebaMiles is accurate, but neither Ethiopian nor an Affiliate accepts any liability with respect to any errors or omissions in any information, whether written or verbal. 
  11. Any part of these Program Rules which is unenforceable for any reason shall be considered capable of being cut out so as not to affect the remainder of these Program Rules in any way. Neither Ethiopian nor an Affiliate shall be required to provide any service any service or otherwise act in pursuance of these Program Rules if to do so would be contrary to law.
  12. Members may be required to provide documentation at check-in that can establish the Member’s identity and membership to ShebaMiles. If a Member fails to comply with this requirement, ShebaMiles reserves the right to refuse carriage.

 

Ethiopian’ means Ethiopian Airlines Enterprise with corporate offices at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

‘ShebaMiles Program’ or ‘Program’ is defined as Ethiopian Frequent Flyer Award Program.

‘Service Partner’ means a provider of goods or services which is participating in ShebaMiles from time to time, and may include, but not limited to, airlines, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, oil companies and resorts, financial, leisure and lifestyle service providers and car hire companies.

‘Member’ means a person who has applied for membership of the ShebaMiles frequent flyer program and has been issued a membership number in this respect;

‘Enrollment Date’ is defined as the date on which Ethiopian issues the first Membership Card.

‘Account’ means the Account to which the Miles of a Member will be accrued or deducted;

‘Miles’ means all types of miles accrued by a Member under the ShebaMiles program including miles accrued from qualifying flights from revenue tickets, acquiring the products and services from ShebaMiles Service Partners, purchasing miles from Ethiopian Airlines and earning promotional or other bonus miles.

‘Base Mile’ means Miles accrued by a Member under ShebaMiles in respect to basic consumption of qualifying goods and services.

‘Bonus Mile’ means Miles accrued by a Member under the ShebaMiles program in respect to consumption of qualifying goods and services with added value/or Bonus Miles are Miles earned under special conditions in addition to Base Miles. The use of Bonus Miles may be subject to restriction. Bonus miles are not counted towards a Member’s Tier Qualification except for those granted on Ethiopian Airlines Cloud Nine flights on revenue tickets.

‘Status Miles’ or ‘Tier Qualifying Miles’ means Miles accrued in respect of qualification for a Membership ‘Tier’ Level, being a Mile earned only by taking a flight on Ethiopian or on Airline Partners that particularly offer status mile.

‘Tier Segments’ or ‘Tier Sectors’ or ‘Tier Qualifying Flight Segment’ or ‘Tier Qualifying Segment’ or ‘Tier Qualifying Sector’ means the number of qualifying flight segments or sectors accrued by a Member that count towards the Member’s progress from one ShebaMiles Tier Status to a higher Tier Status or the Member’s re-qualification to the same higher Tier status.

‘Membership Tier’ means a membership level in the ShebaMiles frequent flyer program;

‘Membership Card’ or ‘Card’ are defined as Ethiopian’s ShebaMiles Program Membership Card, issued and distributed by Ethiopian, after acceptance by Ethiopian of the application for Ethiopian’s Frequent Flyer Program. A ‘Card’ can refer to a Physical or Digital card.

Award’ means specified goods or services to be provided by ShebaMiles, Affiliate or a Service Partner to a Member in exchange for Miles.

A ‘year’ is defined as the period of 12 consecutive months starting from January 01 to December 31.

Warsaw Convention 1929’means The Convention for the Unification of Certain Rules relating to International Carriage by Air, Warsaw, 12th October 1929.

In these Program Rules, unless a contrary intention appears:

  1. A reference to the singular includes a reference to the plural, and vice versa;
  2. A reference to a gender includes a reference to the opposite gender;
  3. A reference to a party includes a reference to its authorized employees; and
  4. Headings are inserted for the purpose of convenient reference only and shall not affect the intent or construction of the clauses.
  1. A Member may earn Miles by taking qualifying flights or using the qualifying services of Service Partners on or after his or her enrolment date. Transactions undertaken 90 days before this enrolment date are not eligible for Mileage accrual. Miles are awarded for a qualifying flight at the rate published by Ethiopian at the date of travel.
  2. All scheduled Ethiopian routes qualify for Miles accrual if published in the Miles Chart. However, the Mile Chart and all flights are subject to changes and cancellations at any time with or without prior notice to Members. Ethiopian will determine the Miles to be earned for new routes or fare types, as they become available. Ethiopian may debit a Member’s account for any Miles credited incorrectly and will inform member accordingly. 
  3. To earn Miles, a Member must either produce a Membership Card or quote the Membership number during reservation, ticketing or check-in for qualifying flights and at point of payment for other qualifying goods or services.
  1. A Member may make a retroactive Mile claim to a ShebaMiles service center or online at Ethiopian Airlines official website for transaction made after enrollment and within one year of the date on which the transaction took place. A Member must provide original tickets, boarding passes, transaction documents, receipts and any other documents requested by Ethiopian when making a retroactive claim through a service center. A Member should retain electronic copies or photocopies of these documents for verification purposes. 
  2. Miles may only be earned for one frequent flyer program for each flight or transaction unless otherwise stated by a Service Partner. Miles can only be accumulated once per flight per Member, regardless of the number of seats purchased. Miles may take eight weeks or more to be credited to a Member from the date of the transaction. Miles earned by a Member may be used or redeemed by that Member in accordance with these Program Rules once they have been credited to the relevant Account. 
  3. Activity statements will be generated for a Member’s online view and emailed on a regular basis to members categorized as active by parameters to be defined by Ethiopian and will include information concerning miles accrued and redeemed during a defined period to be indicated on the statement.
  1.  Miles are awarded only for goods and services actually supplied. In particular, no Miles will be earned in connection with goods or services which have been ordered but cancelled prior to utilization by a Member, or in circumstances in which the Member fails to meet any obligation on his or her part in connection with the order. Miles can only be accrued when a Member has actually completed a flight.  Miles will not be credited for unutilized tickets even though it has been paid for.
  1. ShebaMiles accounts are individual accounts where miles are to be credited to a member’s account for which the member himself/herself has used the qualifying flights or service of Service Partners. Flights or services of Service Partners taken by a family member, friend, relative, of a member or any other person other than the member himself/herself shall not be credited to a member’s account.
    1. Miles are not transferable and cannot be combined with the Miles of any other Account unless found in duplicate accounts belonging to a single member. Ethiopian will solely determine whether there exist duplicate accounts and the Member shall produce such evidences as may be requested by Ethiopian to ascertain the existence of duplicate accounts.
    2. Miles are neither negotiable nor redeemable for cash. Credit is not given for any activity undertaken before Membership is granted unless otherwise specified by Ethiopian or expressly permitted under this Terms and Conditions. 
    3. ShebaMiles Member Miles are valid for three years from the first year on which the Member undertakes the relevant flight or enters into the applicable transaction with a Service Partner. Unused Miles will be cancelled at the expiry of that period. Unused, expired Miles will be removed on 31st December of every year. If the Member registers eligible activities on Ethiopian flights, Partner Airline flights or non-airline activities from Service Partners in the calendar year when the miles are due for expiry, the potential miles to expire will be extended for one more calendar year. Flights taken on ShebaMiles or Partner Airline award tickets or award mile redeposit transactions will not be considered towards expiring miles extension. It is the Member’s responsibility to be aware of both the miles in their account, and when they will expire.  
    4. Miles for flights are based on the non-stop great circle distance between airports (as determined by Ethiopian) for which the Member is ticketed and has traveled.
    5. The following types of miles or sectors are not considered towards Tier qualification for a member:
      13.1. Flight miles or sectors traveled on ShebaMiles award tickets or upgrade awards and/or Airline Partner Loyalty Program award tickets or upgrade awards;
      13.2.     Flight miles or sectors traveled on revenue tickets on ASKY Airlines;
      13.3.     Miles accrued from purchasing products or services from ShebaMiles Non-Airline partners.
      13.4.     Miles accrued from purchasing Miles from Ethiopian Airlines.
      13.5.     All promotional bonus miles with the exception of Ethiopian Airlines Cloud Nine or Business class bonus miles earned from flights on eligible revenue tickets.
      13.6.     Miles accrued as compensation Miles given out as compensation of service deficiencies or other cases.
    6. Individuals traveling on employee, industry reduced rates and agent discounted tickets, non-revenue tickets, specially discounted military, diplomat or government tickets, free or Award tickets, Award tickets issued by other frequency or loyalty program of which Ethiopian or an Affiliate is a participant, non-scheduled or charter flights, highly discounted ticket or specially discounted travel tickets not indicating published fares (as determined by Ethiopian and its Airline partners) do not qualify to earn or accrue miles. Ethiopian and its Airline Partners may decide to exclude other fare types. 
    7. In case of class upgrade awards, no mile shall be accrued for the upgraded portion or for the difference between economy and business class. However, class upgrades against airport surcharge fees shall earn the applicable mileage as per the prevailing program rule.
    8. In the event of class upgrades on Ethiopian Airlines operated flights, the following Program rules apply:
      16.1. If a Member redeems a class upgrade award with miles, the Member will earn Miles for the economy class in which he/she  originally booked and paid, not for the upgraded class.
      16.2. A Member who is upgraded to business class by paying the applicable surcharge payment will receive mile credit according to the mile earning percentage of the designated business cabin booking class for such upgrades. 
      16.3. A Member who is upgraded to business class by winning a bid through Plus Grade will earn miles according to the type of fare or booking class purchased for the economy class ticket and no additional bonus miles will be granted for the upgrade.
      16.4. A Platinum Tier Member who uses the allotted Complimentary Class upgrade benefit per flight sector and travels in business class will not earn any miles nor is the flight mile or sector counted towards Tier qualification.
      16.5. If the class upgrade was given by courtesy of Ethiopian, a Member will earn Miles for the economy class in which he/she was originally booked and has paid, not for the upgraded class.  
      16.6 A passenger originally holding Economy class award ticket (ShebaMiles award ticket and partner airlines award ticket) and upgraded to business class by paying the applicable surcharge payment will not receive mile credit both for the original Economy class award ticket and for the paid upgrade..
    9.    A Member will be credited mileage for cancelled flights when re-accommodated on a non-Service Partner airline provided that the Member already had a ticket for the cancelled flight and the flight is cancelled on the day of departure. However, such crediting will not occur if the cancellation is due to circumstances beyond the control of the relevant airline, including but not limited to weather, earthquake, fire, labor stoppages or strikes, civil unrest or closed airports. 

    10. Service Partners

       Service Partners, and the terms and conditions under which Miles are earned through a Service Partner, may vary from time to time. The terms and conditions concerning the accrual of Miles may also vary between Service Partners. A Service Partner may withdraw from participating in the ShebaMiles Program at any time. It is the responsibility of the Member to verify eligibility to earn Miles at the time of booking.

      Some of the essential points are:

      18.1. To earn miles with Service Partners, members must provide their membership number or present their membership cards at time of booking, check-in, check-out, etc.

      18.2. It takes a minimum of 60 (sixty) calendar days (after the last date the partner’s service is used by members) for miles earned from Service Partners, other than airlines, to be credited to members account.

      18.3. If miles are not credited within the minimum time indicated under item ’18.2’ above, members shall direct their request to the Service Partner.

      18.4. In the case of Service Partners other than airlines, retroactive mile claims can only be made within six (6) months from the last date the partner’s service is used by members.

      18.5. Miles earned from eligible purchases with the Service Partner shall be credited provided that the Partner reported the applicable transactions and total miles to Ethiopian prior to its decision to withdraw from the ShebaMiles Program.

      18.6. Ethiopian is not liable for delays or failures on reporting mileage accruals of members by its Service Partners, including where a Service Partner withdraws its participation in the ShebaMiles Program.

  1. Member information held by Ethiopian includes the information which a Member or a Service Partner provides to Ethiopian, such as: names, addresses, contact numbers, date of birth, and transaction details including Miles accrual and Award transactions relating to ShebaMiles.
  2. Member Information will be retained and used by Ethiopian, Affiliates and data processors to ensure the efficient running of the Program, including the crediting of Miles, the provision of Membership statements and the awarding of Membership Levels; may be disclosed as required by law, including disclosures to the police, immigration and customs authorities; may be used by Ethiopian to send you communications about promotions, services, products and facilities offered by Ethiopian; may be disclosed to a Service Partner to assist that Service Partner in the planning and development of ShebaMiles; may be used by an Affiliate or a Service Partner to send you separate communications about services, products and facilities offered by that Affiliate or Service Partner (unless the Member indicates otherwise); and may be used to develop new services; may be used for Accounting and audit purposes (including fraud auditing); may be used for credit checking and credit scoring; may be used for marketing and market research purposes; will be transferred to countries that may not have data protection laws; and may otherwise be used in a manner which a member may authorize from time to time.
  3. The consent given by a Member will continue in effect unless and until the Member withdraws the consent by notice in writing to a ShebaMiles service centre. Withdrawal of consent may mean that certain services may no longer be provided to the Member, and also entitles Ethiopian to terminate membership immediately.
  4. Member may obtain a copy of his or her Member information upon making a written request and upon paying Ethiopian’s reasonable costs (if any) of providing that Member information. The Member may request Ethiopian to correct or delete any item of the member information which is not accurate, complete or up-to-date at no charge to the member.  
  5. The Member warrants that any information provided by a Member about any Family Member is provided with the knowledge, consent and the authority of the Family Member.
  6. The Member hereby clearly acknowledges and give consent Ethiopian Airlines to process, transfer or control his/her personsl data necessary for the activities relating to ShebaMiles Program. Moreover, the Member hereby acknowledges and agree Ethiopian Airlines shall not be repsposible for Member’s personal data given to Points.Com. Inc based on the above clauses concerning Buy, Gift, Transfer, Extend, Reinstate and Boost ShebaMiles Miles. The Member herbey clearly acknowledges and agree such consent will be served for all applicable data protection laws including but not limited to EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as amended form time to time (as applicable). However, noting herein shall be construed the GDPR will be applicable in case of Members’ personal data treatment, process, control and otherwise in connection to the Sheba Mile Program, unless otherwise it is applicable by its provisions (operation of the regulation).
  1. To the extent permitted by law, neither Ethiopian nor an affiliate will be liable to a member or any other person for any loss or damage, whether direct or indirect, resulting from termination or change of or to ShebaMiles or any of the facilities, benefits or arrangements which are made available to a Member, including service partner withdrawal or the withdrawal of any benefits, facilities or arrangements.
  2. Ethiopian reserves the right to disqualify a Member from further participation in the ShebaMiles, to cancel all previously accumulated Miles and to seek compensation for Awards utilized if, in Ethiopian’s sole judgment, that Member has engaged in willful misconduct or breached any of the rules governing the ShebaMiles, including, but not limited to the fraudulent acquisition of miles or acquisition, sale or abuse of miles or acquisition, sale or abuse of Award benefits.
  3. All Members taking advantage of services offered to Members and that are operated by third party suppliers (each a “Supplier”) will be entering into a legal relationship with the Supplier. To the extent permitted by law, Ethiopian excludes all liability to any Member or other person of whatsoever nature in respect of any negligence, willful misconduct, poor service or other breach of obligation arising out of the provision or failure to provide the services by or on behalf of a Supplier arising out of that legal relationship with a Supplier.
  4. The Member herbey clearly acknowledges and agree Ethiopian Airlines shall not be responsible for any performance, non-performance, negligence, willful misconduct, treatment (control, transpfer, process, loss) of personal data of the Member, breach of data protection laws, breach of GDPR, breach of its terms and conditions or agreement with the Member by Point.com. Inc or its agents, and the Member is hereby releases Ethiopian Airlines form any such and any other form of claim, liability. Ethiopian Airlines not guarantees the performance or obligation of the Point.com Inc or its agents. Ethiopian Airlines and Point.com.Inc are independt parties whichby conduct of the Points.com.Inc shall not bind Ethiopan Airlines.
