Where excess baggage charges are charged per piece you can redeem your miles for one additional Piece of baggage weighing up to 23KG.
Excess Baggage Award Charges
The miles required for additional baggage varies depending on whether excess baggage is charged per piece or weight and your destination. In addition, you can also use your miles for an overweight bag, which applies to a baggage that is part of the normal allowance but overweight by up to additional 9kg.

- Asia: includes Tokyo, Seoul, Jakarta, Singapore, Bangkok, Manila, Kula Lumpur, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore,Chennai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Chengdu, Karachi.
- The Americas: Includes all cities in USA, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires.
- Europe: includes Stockholm, Oslo, Geneva, Zurich, Vienna, Frankfurt, Rome, Milan, Athens, Paris, Marseille, Dublin, London, Manchester, Copenhagen, Brussels, Moscow.
- Africa Fifth Freedom: Flights between Dakar &Bamako, Abidjan & Conakry, Libreville & Yaoundé, Cotonou &Conakry, Bujumbura & Kigali, Juba & Entebbe, Douala & Malabo, Entebbe &Goma.
- Asia Fifth Freedom: Flights between Hong-Kong & Bangkok, Singapore & Kuala Lumpur, Seoul &Tokyo.
- Europe & America Fifth Freedom: Flights between Oslo & Stockholm, Vienna& Geneva, Sao Paulo & Buenos Aires
- Excess baggage awards are applicable only on confirmed and ticketed flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines. Partner airline flights are not eligible for excess baggage award including connecting flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines and its partner airlines.
- ShebaMiles members can redeem excess baggage awards for themselves. Excess Baggage award cannot be issued for award nominees.
- ShebaMiles members can redeem excess baggage award for a maximum of 4 pieces (each up to 23kg) excess baggage per flight on markets where the standard baggage allowance is in piece concept.
- ShebaMiles members can redeem excess baggage award for up to 4 units of overweight bags (each up to 9KG) per flight on markets where the standard baggage allowance is in piece concept.
- ShebaMiles members can redeem excess baggage award for a maximum of 20kg excess baggage per flight on markets where the standard baggage allowance is in weight concept. Separate EMD shall be issued for each block of 5kg extra baggage.
- ShebaMiles members can redeem excess baggage award for a maximum of 15KG excess baggage per flight on markets where the standard baggage allowance is in weight concept.
- Excess baggage award Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) will be issued at the time of excess baggage award redemption.
- Excess baggage award Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) will be valid for date and flight specified and cannot be changed.
- Excess baggage awards are non-transferable.
- The excess baggage award will be issued at check-in counters and acceptance is subject to space availability.
- Excess baggage awards are for single use only. Partly utilized awards will not be accepted and cannot be refunded to cash or miles.
- Excess baggage awards are non-refundable. In case of excess baggage award utilization being restricted by unforeseen limitations (e.g. lack of space) the miles will be credited back to the member’s account.
